The above answer is wrong. A bull-type dog cannot "lock" on when they bite - that is a complete myth. They have very strong jaws but they do not lock!
In one study, the Dalmatian topped non-lethal dog bites, although small dogs are known to bite as many are not socialized or trained properly. Any dog can bite if they are not socialized. There are many myths about Pit Bulls which are made worse by the media. Ignorance is a very dangerous thing. Pit bulls are amazing dogs; it's the people who abuse them that should get the bad rep.
