Addison's usually begins at middle age. A good breeder will not breed a dog that has Addisons Disease although sometimes it is too late since the onset is later than one would breed a dog. However, once it is known that a sire or dam carries, those pups are usually taken out of the breeding program.

Breeds include Portuguese Water Dogs (The President's breed of choice), Bearded Collies, Labrador Retrievers, Standard Poodles, Great Danes, Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, Airedale Terriers, Basset Hounds, Springer Spaniels and West Highland White Terriers.
