Sporting dogs are a group of breeds that were originally bred to work closely with a hunter in some form to assist with finding or retrieving game. They include pointers, retrievers, setters, and many kinds of spaniels. They tend to be active and alert dogs who crave companionship with a person. Some of America's most popular dogs, like the Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, and Cocker Spaniel can be found in the sporting group.
