There once was this scientist who was working on an experiment. His works space was cluttered and he was working frantically. So, he accidentally spilled acid on his notes. He took his notes outside and hung them on a clothesline to dry. When he came back later, they were completely gone!! So that is how litmos paper was invented. Litmos is a paper that has been specially treated by acid. If you were to light it on fire, it would disintegrate instantly. That was how our scientist lost his notes OUTSIDE....in the SUN....now do you get it why the disappeared? If you dip Litmos paper in certain chemicals it will or won't cange colors depending upon whether or not it is an acid, a base, or a neutral.
