After earning a medical degree, residency training in otolaryngology must be completed and board certification examinations must be successfully passed to become a board certified otolaryngologist.
An otolaryngologist is a physician who has completed at least one four-year undergrad degree as well as four years of medical school and a five to seven year residency in the specialty area. An RN can pursue an advanced degree and training in the field as well.
You would first become a medical physician (13+ years of college) and then do residency in a specialty. You would also take the board exam for the specialty.
