This is somewhat of a complicated question, nursing education being fragmented as it is. There are, at this time, three routes to entry level nursing at the RN level: Diploma programs, Associate degree programs, and Bachelor degree programs. Entry into all these programs are quite competitive, and they last from about 14 months to 4 years.

After getting your RN license, usually all that is actually required to work as a pediatric nurse is an interest in the field and applying for a job on a pediatric unit. There may be some time needed in on-the-job training, but no other special training is usually required.
