It's not common, but it is definitely possible.
I was on metronidazole for 10 days for a tooth infection. I stopped taking it 11 days ago and still am suffering from the side effects. It has given me severe around the clock acid reflux and so far it isn't going away.
A large number of antibiotics can lessen the effects of the pill, however there is no concrete evidence that they effect everyone in this way and it is important to remember that every body is different. But on the whole, antibiotics such as penicillin, amoxycillin, metronidazole, ofloxacin, etc have been found to decrease the effectiveness of birth control. Some antibiotics, like fluconazole and trimethoprim have no effect on it.
Metronidazole can it treat Bronchitis
A drug interaction exists between Metronidazole and alcohol, it is known as a "disulfiram-like reaction". If these two are ingested together or even within 48-72 hours of each other it can result in very severe vomiting. Metronidazole gel, though used either topically (on the skin) or vaginally (inserted in the vagina), may result in a low amount/level of systemic absorption i.e. some of the drug may still get into your body system. If it does and you drink alcohol then you will have the very unpleasant reaction described above. It is for this reason that patients are advised to not drink alcohol whilst using Metronidazole gel.
metronidazole with aspirin
The number 1 cause of ineffectiveness for any antibiotic is: overuse. Your body can become immune to its effects if you're constantly being treated with the same medication (overexposure). Drinking alcohol while taking Metronidazole can also decrease its effectiveness and other medications can interact. Usually your healthcare provider will check to see if there are any possible interactions if you're taking any other prescriptions before prescribing.
Metronidazole is an antibiotic hence a medical practitioner will prescribe it.
