220 - 240V is the general limit for the house hold purpose and the same voltage should be supplied for all the electric componets which are using. We know, voltage will get drop after passing resistor/electric devices (which are consuming the voltage). If all components are in series, then voltage will be very less for the electric componet which is placed at last in series connection. For this reason, all connections should be placed in parallel, so that voltage will be same for all electric devices. I hope what i sad is correct. Raju (Mechanical)

transformer YES but transmission is 475kv and distribution is 16kv and finally one phase out of a transformer on a pole or on the ground. An electric switch yard will have transformers to reduce to distribution voltage.

Nothing can change electric current to voltage. You can compare "current " to rate of flow, while "voltage" is the energy level. Transformers can be used to increase or decrease the voltages of alternating current as is done from 'street power' to domestic power.
