It depends somewhat on the type of radiation that one needs to be shielded.
Lead is very effective for gamma rays, however if the radiation is mostly neutron radiation then borated reinforced concrete is much more effective than lead (the hydrogen in the water of crystallization in the concrete slows the neutrons and the boron then absorbs the slow neutrons). Nuclear reactors which produce intense radiation of both gamma ray and neutron often use alternating layers of lead plate and borated reinforced concrete for shielding.
If all you are shielding against is beta radiation then a sheet of aluminum foil is typically adequate.
If all you are shielding against is alpha radiation then your skin (do not ingest or inhale alpha emitters) or one sheet of paper is adequate.

yes as it is used by most football teams as part of their treble.
Uranium becomes lead
You can only say, 23 years later, I-131's radioactivity almost decreases to 1/8 of original radioactivity.
Radioactivity is caused by unstable atoms, that break apart.
Usually lead (Pb) because it is a cheap heavy metal.
Lead
If you mean HALF LIFE, that is the length of time it takes a quantity of a radioactive element to lose half its radioactivity.
ima boss all day
The most used is lead.
You can say that as long as the alpha particle itself is not originating from a radioactive element. If however one is able to isolate the helium nucleus from the elemental atom and then used for bombarding towards the beryllium then it is considered as an example of artificial radioactivity. Or the production of a radioactive element(synthetic element) like Francium can be considered artificial radioactivity.
The protective apron used by dentists contains lead, which is highly opaque to radioactivity. (You would also notice that if you read Superman comic books; lead is used to safely contain kryptonite.)
Natural Radioactivity arises from radioactive components contained in nature. Artificial Radioactivity will come through element produced with in nuclear reactors as well as accelerators. Natural Radioactivity is a spontaneous process of disintegration. Artificial Radioactivity is carried in synthetically produced radioactive elements used in nuclear reactors.

Lead
Radioactivity is discovered on uranium.
