It all depends on if you have an interference engine or not, if you do valves could hit pistons if running at the time
its either a timing belt or else a timing chain
There is no timing belt. There is timing chain. You do not need to ever change it, they last. Except if you change smtg else around, like water pump.
Idler and tensioner pulleys, cam and crank oil seals and pays to do water pump also if it is driven from the timing belt.
Hopefully nothing. Put a new belt on and try it.
yes you do have to loosen the nut on the tensioner, or else u wont have ennough slack in the belt to put it on, once it is in place then make shure u tighten the bolt again
If the timing belt drives the water pump you should also replaced it at the same time. Also inspect the tensioner and replace as necessary.
The cost to replace the timing belt on a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse is about $700. This will depend on what else needs to be replaced and the dealer that you use.Ê
Yes, it does have an interference engine so do replace your timing belt on schedule time or else the engine might be dead when the timing belt is broken.
When changing the timing belt, you must also change the water pump and belt tensioner. While the belt is off, you want to check the front crankshaft seal for any leakage. if no leakage is found you don't need to replace it. You should also replace the accessory drive belts, as they will already be off to replace the timing belt.
First of all a 2003 Tahoe has a timing chain. And the answer to your question is a serpentine belt is what is on the front of your engine, It runs the water pump, power steering, Alternator, A/C and what ever else is hooked to the front of the engine. A timing belt is what hooks the crank to the camshaft and has Gogs on it that runs in the gears. A serpentine belt has grooves in it so it will stay on the pulleys.
I'm not familiar with this model. But if the water pump is driven by the timing belt that is always worth changing at the same time also it is advisable to change the belt tensioner and any belt idlers at the same time Inspect the serpentine belt change if getting worn.
It has a timing chain. The timing chain is on the front of the engine. But before messing with it ,I would have the timing check first. You may have something else wrong, like a sensor or a vaccum leak.
