All atomic vibration slows down. But never fully stops,not even at 0 K. Heat is really just the movement of atoms and molecules. A microwave oven make molecules vibrate, thus heating them, because molecular/atomic vibration is heat. And "cold" is less particle movement. Which is why is takes a certain amount of heat AND pressure to achieve fusion, heat and pressure makes the atoms move faster and thus the collisions betweens atoms becomes more energetic.
Also heat actually means "transfer of energy", nothing has heat, as it refers to a process no a state; temperature is an equation of state= its value does not depend on how it was arrived at, whereas heat (H) is a process and DO depend on how it was arrived at.
So what happens in freezing chambers? The freezers transports energy away from whatever is inside it. it is can by performing some endothermic process like the expansion of a gas, as it absorbs heat from its surroundings, which in fact is how freezers work (remember "freon")..
