What engines came in a 1979 Chevy El Camino?
Either a 200 or 231 cid V6, or a 267 or 305 V8
A 350 Oldsmobile engine has a different bolt pattern than the Chevrolet engine. The 350 Olds and 350 Pontiac engines have the same bolt pattern. The 350 Chevrolet and the 350 Buick engines have the same bolt pattern. Unless you have a dual bolt pattern transmission (there are some out there) in that Chevy, the Olds engine won't bolt into the Chevy transmission.
Are you sure you have a 2.2? The only two engines that I know of that came in a 99 Malibu were the 2.4l DOHC 4 cyl or the 3.1l V-6. With both of these engines, 2.4 & 3.1, the oil filter is at the front of the engine. There may be a cover that has two wing screws that are easy to remove and then the filter is right there.
