There is a final battle where they do defeat Naraku. However, Inuyasha decides that he doesn't want to use the Jewel to become all human and gives it to Kagome who wishes it out of existence so there's no need for demons to come after it anymore and noone needs to guard it. Of course, this means that when she returns home she can never go back through the well to visit Inuyasha anymore. 3 years pass and in this time she finally comes to realise that she doesn't want to live the rest of her life with out Inuyasha. Using her powers as a preistess she returns to the past where Inuyasha missed her just as much and they get married (Miroku and Sango have had 3 kids already by this point). There's also a point where Sesshoumaru is visit Rin and she calls him Onii-Chan (familiar term for big brother), where both Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha give her dirty looks.

I think Inuyasha likes Kagome better, she stays with him, and Kikyo constantly disappears.I also believe that Inuyasha is more attached to Kagome, but he does not flirt with anyone. Kikyo and Inuyasha had an unhealthy relationship. They had both been deprived of someone to talk to, someone to love and trust them for so long that they latched onto each other. Besides, Kikyo could never fully accept Inuyasha's half-demon side. She wanted him to use the Shikon Jewel shards to become a full human and marry her. Kagome always accepted Inuyasha for who he was, and taught him the healthier ways to love people, as friends or lovers. She never made him choose between the two of them, either, as Kikyo often tried to do.But, in the end, it's a moot point. Kikyo died and Inuyasha was left with Kagome, whom he married. Who knows who he would have chosen if Kikyo had lived? Well, I mean it would have been difficult for him to choose Kikyo. She died twice, but I feel he would have chosen Kagome, because she never tried to kill him or drag him down to hell with her.Kikyo also once thought Inuyasha purposedly betrayed her because Inuyasha tried to steal the Shikon Jewel.Wow that is a lot, but I do want to add something. But she perseveres, convinced that Inuyasha will save her. Inuyasha, on the other hand, is battling the demons that Midoriko(the priestess that created the Shikon Jewel) had made Shikon Jewel out of. The Shikon Jewel then tells Kagome to wish on it for Inuyasha to be there with her. She was about to, but Inuyasha defeated the demons and cut a glowing line, which brought him to Kagome. He then kisses her, and she wishes that the Shikon Jewel would disappear forever. It does, and she and Inuyasha pop up on the Bone Eater's Well in Modern Era. Kagome rushes to greet her family, which had been waiting for 3 days since the well disappeared, but as she turns around, Inuyasha is sucked back into the well to the Feudal Era. Kagome tries to get through to the Feudal Era, but the well stopped working. In the Feudal Era, however, the well also appeared back in its original place, and Inuyasha climbs out alone. Then it skips 3 years, and Shippo has gone to the Fox Demon Exam (mentioned earlier in The Final Act), Miroku and Sango are married and having their third child, Rin is living with Kaede, and Inuyasha helps Miroku with his exorcists and whatnot. But every 3 days, Inuyasha would go back to the well and attempt to get through to Kagome. Meanwhile, in Kagome's world, she had just finished High School. She then comes to a realization as she gazes into the well with her mother, and sees a sky at the bottom. Her mom tells her to go, and Kagome jumps in. Inuyasha picks up her scent and runs to the well, where he meets her again. Then they get married.
