Jazz is a type of music as far as I'm concerned. Although there are some comedians who would say the opposite. There are many types of music (classical, rock, reggae) and although the more contempory 'genres' tend to bleed into one another, most older forms (baroque etc) are named after a particular era. Jazz is typified by generally unusual time signatures and key signatures. But once again there are many different types of jazz such… Read More

Many dance bands played a more heavily arranged form of jazz known as Swing. Blues, mostly performed by black musicians in that terribly segregated era. Technically, it means the classical era, which lasted from approximately 1750 to 1825. Well-known classical era composers include Mozart and Haydn. However, classical music has come to be used to refer generally to music seen as 'traditional' music not from the 'popular' idiom (and in that I include not just pop, but also Rock-and-Roll, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Folk etc., etc.) - so music from the medieval through to the contemporary eras of the Western musical… Read More

That would get into some hair splitting. The earliest recordings of music tended to be famous classical pieces, but those obviously aren't "pop" music of that era. However, classic American songs (folk-type) were very popular, and many early recordings were of those ("Swanee River", "No Place Like Home", etc.) Other than that possibility, yes - jazz probably was the first "popular" music to be recorded. The only equal contender would be marches and patriotic pieces… Read More

There are two Renaissances that I know of: a) The Medieval Renaissance: This was a time in Europe when art, literature and music flourished (mostly art and literature). In my opinion country music was the best from the 70s, 80's, and early 90's. Hope that helps. Country Music was at it's artistic height during the Honky Tonk era of the 50's and Bakersfield era of the late 50's/early 60's. Since then (apart from various 'return to roots movements') Country Music has become more and more commercial and now is virtually pop music with southern accents.

His music developed quite differently from Mozart's, developing a depth and passion not seen in the Classical Era, but which ushered… Read More
