when the Soviet Union launched the first man-made satellite, sputnik, the us became fearful of the soviet's technological abilities so the us federal govt pumped a lot of money into science, math and gifted education programs. we responded with our own man-made satellite, thus starting the tit for tat race to space.
Because the space race was a theoretical race, winning would be a matter of opinion. I consider that America "won" this race when the Astronauts of Apollo 11 were the first people to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. Many events happened following this historical event which led to the people of the world being the ultimate winner based on the use of satellite communication systems of today.
1. What were the expected results of each country's space exploration efforts? 2. Has mankind progressed or profited in any way as a result of our moon exploration? 3. What countries were involved in the space race? 4. Who won the space race? Explain your answer.
