They were invaded by the western movement, United States government, and killed by the American troops. At Ft. Laramie the largest mass hanging took place with Sioux warriors. The US army hung 38 Sioux and imprisoned hundreds in a concentration camp.
You have the story wrong. They didn’t attack to Sioux, but were attacked by several thousand Lakota and Cheyenne warriors. The 263 men with Custer died.

In the late Summer of 1862 the Santee Sioux in Minnesota launched an attack on settlers in that territory. Federal troops from war activity against the Confederacy to end the Sioux rebellion. Union General John Pope was sent with a detachment of troops to end the revolt.

George Armstrong Custer's soldiers discovered gold in the Black Hills. The U.S. government responded by insisting that the Sioux who lived there sell their reservaation land but the Sioux refused. This caused the Battle of the Little Bighorn in which Sioux warriors surrounded George Armstrong Custer and his troops. It was the worst defeat the U.S. army suffered in the west.

The special thing about The Sioux is that they are a unique tribe. Probably the only two tribes that participated in the battle of the little bighorn. Sioux Indians are special.
The Sioux liked to dance and play music in their spare time. Warriors would also mutilate themselves to prove how tough they were.
