Answer 1
I believe he dies in Moria with Balin.

Answer 2
Nothing is explicitly written about Dwalin after The Hobbit, however, it is clear that he was not among the party that entered Moria with Balin. This is because the important leaders of that party are named explicitly: "Balin left Erebor and entered Moria with a company of dwarves including Flói, Óin, Ori, Frár, Lóni, and Náli." It is likely that if Dwalin had gone, he would have been named. Additionally, the date of Dwalin's death is Year 91 of the Fourth Age, as confirmed in the LOTR appendices, which is long after the events of Fellowship of the Ring and therefore long after the Dwarven colony in Moria was eliminated.

Dwalin likely lived in Erebor for the rest of his life and probably fought in the Battles against Sauron's Emissaries that would eventually claim lives of King Brand and King Dain Ironfoot. However, Tolkien never explicitly mentions Dwalin after the Battle of Five Armies at the end of The Hobbit.
