Making glass from sand is a physical because the actual composition of the substance (silica) is not changing. Making glass is just melting all the bits of sand into a large piece (glass).

What is the chemical elements in mirrors?

All a mirrors are are pieces of glass with a silver background. Glass is generally comprised of silicon compounds (like sand) that are heated to high temperatures to a point where their crystalline structure changes and it turns into glass.

Does the density of the air in a bubble change as a bubble rises in water?

The density of air decreases as the bubble rises, since the bubble can increase in size as it rises. A scuba diver needs to release air from her lungs when rising from a depth for this reason. The density of air inside a Japanese fishing net float (a hollow glass sphere) would not change substantially. Changing its temperature would not change the density, only the pressure, since the same number of molecules are involved.

What is the toxic chemical inside cathode ray tubes?

What evidence do we have that changing sand to glass is a chemical change?

Glass contain not only melted sand but also other compounds forming new compounds.

Is a glass breking a chemical change or a physical change?

A physical change. You're not changing the composition of the glass. It's still made up of silica, and is still glass. It's just 'changing' its shape or form.

How can breaking a glass jar be a physical change?

Breaking a glass jar changes the physical form of the glass without changing its chemical composition.

Is breaking a glass beaker chemical or physical?

Breaking, grinding, cracking are all examples of a physical change. The nature of the substance has not changed, just the size of the pieces has changed.

Why is glass breaking a physical change?

Besides for rearranging the glass pieces, one is not actually changing the chemical formula of the glass. Much like grinding NaCl, the crystals get smaller but the chemical remains the same.

Is a glass of juice frozen melted and refrozen a chemical or physical change?

physical :D I hope that helps

Why is breaking chalk a physical change?

Besides for rearranging the glass pieces, one is not actually changing the chemical formula of the glass. Much like grinding NaCl, the crystals get smaller but the chemical remains the same.

What is the difference between physical and chemical change?

In a physical change the nature of the substance has not changed, just the way it looks, feels or tastes. Examples of physical changes are: glass breaking, water changing into ice, whipping cream. In chemical change the nature or chemical composition of the substance is changed. Examples of chemical change are: iron changing to rust, burning leaves, food spoiling.

Is breaking glass chemical or physical?

Breaking glass is a physical change, as it does not change the chemical composition of the material.

Is breaking glass a physical change?

Yes, as it's still glass. There is no chemical/molecular change.

Is the bending of glass over a flame chemical or physical?

that depends. changing the shape of glass is physical but if its a glass that can be effected by heat then if can be chemical. i would say its both.

When glass brakes is it a physical change?

A glass breaking is a physical change because the chemical composition of the glass does not change.
