The North held strong defensive positions on the high ground. The North outnumbered Lee's forces. The Northern position stood astride the Southern communication, transportation, and evacuation routes. The South did not have a lot in its favor at Gettysburg.
the north came into Gettysburg from the south, and the south came into town from the north.
The Battle of Gettysburg, in Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. But I believe it was the other way around, with the north suffering the larger loss.
368 miles taking this route:Take I-81 SOUTH from Watertown all the way down to PA-581 EAST to CAMP HILL at EXIT 59 in Harrisburg, PENNSYLVANIA. To bypass SYRACUSE, take I-481 SOUTH (EXIT 29S off I-81 in NEW YORK).Take the 581 EAST to U.S. 15 SOUTH to GETTYSBURG at EXIT 5A, then take U.S. 15 SOUTH to Gettysburg.
Yes the south got way more messed up
From the north!
Neither side planned to fight a battle there. The South went there looking for shoes. The North stumbled upon them hoping to block their way to Washington.
The battle began when advance units of both sides stumbled onto one another without knowing the other was there. The South was scouting for shoes which they heard were in a warehouse, there. The South approached from the North. The North advanced from the South. Mead received his command orders on the way to the battlefield.

No. If it had, Gettysburg probably would not have ended the way it did and Lee would have marched even farther north.
The Battle of Gettysburg is considered the turning point of the war because on May or July 1-3,1863 for the first time, the Union defeated Robert E. Lee's seemingly immortal troops. The Battle of Gettysburg was a mistake, the Union troops and Confederates accidentally ran into each other. For 1-2 days the South seemed to be winning the battles, but since Lee's shortage of cavalry (he split up his forces before the battle) he had no way of knowing Union positions, and so his assaults did not work as they were planned.
At Gettysburg, Pennsylvania :) (A+)
