Hatshepsut was once believed to be the first female pharaoh, but most historians no longer support this view. She was certainly the most successful female ruler of Egypt and one of the most successful pharaoh's of all time. It is believed that she became pharaoh in 1479 BC and ruled for about 22 years.

There is a lot of sexism in the field of piracy. Most pirates at the present time come from Somalia, which is a Muslim nation in which women do not enjoy the same rights as men. I am not aware that there has ever been such a thing as a female pirate captain. On the other hand, pirates make their own rules. I see no reason why it would be impossible for a woman to recruit a crew (most likely an all female crew) and acquire a ship of some sort, and set forth to plunder the seas, just as male pirates do. I don't recommend it, however, it could be done, at least in principle.
