The object of the verb or the indirect object of the verb comes after an action verb. The verb and the words related to that verb are called the predicate.

A predicate can be a single word: a noun, a pronoun, an adverb.

  • She ate lunch. She enjoyed it. She ate early.

A predicate can be a noun phrase or a noun clause.

  • She ate some carrots. She ate carrots roasted with garlic.
