Mark Inglis lost his legs after being caught in a storm near the summit of Mt Cook in 1982. He and his climbing partner Phillip Doole both lost their legs to frostbite. They were rescued after thirteen and 1/2 days spent in a cave near the summit of the mountain. He summited Everest in 2006 on carbon fiber prosthetic legs which were made by one of his Everest climbing team - Wayne "Cowboy" Alexander.
