Use common sense, you want to eat easy going foods for the first few days. Soup, Sandwiches and cold stuff for swellingPopsicles, freezies, slushies, crushed ice. Things to avoid : Dairy products* (* ice cream, sour cream, yogurt) these will leave a residue on your tongue that can promote swelling. Spicy foods or hot foods both of these can irritate the new piercing allow foods to cool a bit before eating, too much spice can also annoy the new piercing. Cream in your coffee is o.k.

Stay on your oral hygiene, brushing and rinsing with a good oral rinse. Don't brush your tongue, this will do nothing to aid the healing and can cause undue irritation to the piercing. If you smoke drink cold water while smoking will rinse the tongue and prevent residue from settling on the piercing. Want to have an adult beverage, well go ahead but don't get too carried away, besure to have a glass of ice water or crushed ice handy to keep the swelling down while you are out having a few.

Don't over use your tongue this includes talking and showing off your new piercing, keep it in your mouth till the swelling goes down (generally about 2 weeks time) once the swelling goes down get your barbell shortened so you don't damage your teeth. Yes you will still be able to play with the barbell, but it won't get between your teeth when you are eating.

Oral contact should be avioded for at least 3 weeks (stick to the cute dry kisses till then). Light heal in 2 weeks but not completely healed that will take 6 to 8 weeks and then it will still be subject to irritation if you get a cold. Fully healed in 1 year and able to be removed for a few hours at a time then. Other than that enjoy the new piercing!

Any type of soup as long as it is not spicy and isn't super hot temperature wise as that can heat your jewelry and burn the literal inside of your piercing. I mostly stuck to chicken noodle and spaghettiO's. You can eat applesauce, baby food, popsicles and dairy free ice cream. pretty much anything soft as long as it has no dairy and it's relatively soft and use common sense because clearly spicy or highly acidic foods would not be good for an open wound.

Its better to avoid spicy and chewable food. You can try having yogurt and milk its harmless and avoid citrus juices like orange etc. You can have soft bread and soft and mild food.
