As far as I know, the hanatavirus cases originated in people who lived in the hard-sided cabins in Yosemite Valley's Curry Village. This was supposedly due to the deer mice burrowing into the insulation and when people swept their cabins, they inhaled the contaminants and were infected.

Glaciers sliding across the land caused the valleys and sheer cliffs of the Yosemite. The water that makes up the falls comes from either heavy rains or the melting of high altitude snow. Typically, the falls are gone or reduced to a trickle by summer's end when all the snow is melted and the area is sparse on rainfall.
I think you mean "Rift" valley and it is in Africa.
