This is mainly how Liberia's name reflects it's history. How it reflects this is that for many years almost all of Africa was controlled by outside forces. But Liberia was founded as a home for freed slaves from the USA. Liberia was one of the few African countries to keep it's independence throughout the colonial era. To conclude my point, Liberia means liberate, which means freedom, which Liberia was successful in this era for many years.
