In the book "The Hobbit" by Tolkien, Bilbo doesn't find the dwarfs, the dwarfs find him! (With the help of the wizard) It is a wonderful book and I strongly recommend reading it!
Bilbo gets lost in the tunnel with Gollum, The dwarfs nearly get eaten by spiders and then they get captured by elves, and Bilbo nearly causes a war by giving the elves the dwarfs most prized possession.
Dwalin is the dwarf most surprised to see Bilbo in Chapter 5 of "The Hobbit." He reacts with disbelief and questions Bilbo about how he reached their location.
Bilbo was warned by the Elvenking about treasure hunting and the dangers of Smaug.
Bilbo brought back a magical ring, several chests of treasure, and most importantly, the Arkenstone, a precious gem that was a symbol of the dwarves' alliance.
One reason why Bilbo is unhappy is because he doesn't like the look of the lonely mountain whereas the dwarves love mountains. The more likely reason is that Bilbo also has a cold. It is referanced in Bilbo's speech in "A Long Expected Party," LOTR FOTR, book one, chapter one.
