calcite is found all over the united states
These terms do not apply to the situation. Intrusive and extrusive are types of igneous rock and like most caves these have been formed in limestone, a sedimentary rock. The chemical action of rain water, which contains dissolved carbon dioxide, was responsible for hollowing them out. The crystalline formations have resulted from the evaporation of watery solutions seeping through the rock.
The formations that are sandwiched between layers of existing rock formations called sills. Another formation between layers is called laccoliths.
The vast majority of weather processes occur in the troposphere, which is below the stratosphere. The boundary between them is called the tropopause. Some cloud formations occur in the stratosphere, but these are rare, and any weather that occurs is not well understood.
Stalactites are stony formations that hang from the ceilings of caves.
Seaweeds are living organisms, members of the Algae family. Stalactites (and Stalagmites) are formations of limestone which occur in caves, they are not living organisms.
Caves formed in limestone, as the vast majority are - but there are many caves that contain few or no "speleothems" as the formations are know collectively. The distribution and scale of the formations is subject to many, complex factors.
StalagmitesFlow stoneandTiered stalagmites.

Stalactites - comprised of the mineral calcite, and although not all limestone caves contain stalactites, these formations always hang from the roofs otherwise they would not be stalactites!
Stalactites refers to the formations that grow downward from the top of the cave.
The Appalachain Plateau Region. :)
Cavemen did not dig their own caves. They typically sought shelter in natural caves or rock formations, or they constructed simple shelters using leaves, branches, and animal skins. It's unlikely that they had the tools or technology to dig extensive underground dwellings.
Caves are usually natural formations (although some are man made) which bury deep into rock. Windows are man-made objects.
Stalactites. The corresponding ones growing up from the floor are Stalagmites.
