The function of the rooster's wattle is in courting potential mates. It is an ornamental.
A chicken wattle is the usually red flap of skin that hangs under the chicken's beak.
the purpose of a wattle has not been proven, but many think it is to attract a mate. Another popular opinion is that when roosters do a dance, called "tidbitting," the roosters use the wattle to make a noise to go with the dance.
This flap of loose skin, found on roosters, turkeys, some dog and goat varieties, and even some humans, is called a wattle.
It has no real function
if its is red and warm and feels just like the comb on top of the head then that is its wattle
When chickens grow up, the roosters often develop the red comb and wattle, and denser feathers, before hens. Fully-grown roosters are usually larger than the hens. They have a leaner, less 'dumpy' shape, and their tail feathers are much larger and curve out. They often have a larger, brighter comb and wattle. They also strut around, crow, and if run with hens will attempt to mount them.
Wattle trees, belonging to the Acacia genus, have leaves that are actually modified stems called phyllodes, which serve a similar function to leaves. These phyllodes are adapted to withstand harsh conditions and help with photosynthesis, allowing the tree to efficiently convert sunlight into energy. The presence of these structures also aids in water conservation, making wattle trees resilient in various environments. Additionally, the leaves provide essential habitat and food sources for various wildlife.
The word you seem to be referring to is WATTLES the flaps of tissue hanging from the "chin" under the beak. Not all roosters have them but most do. I raise Araucana chickens and this breed often does not have them. There are a few other breeds that do not develop the wattle.
