On a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT : With the 4.0 liter SOHC V6 engine ( 4 oxygen sensors , the 2 closest to the engine are used for adjusting the fuel ratio and the other 2 are catalyst monitors There are also ( 4 oxygen sensors if you have the 5.0 liter V8 engine )

There is also one under the hood for the larger Maxi Fuses and relays, Probably on the drivers side (is on my '98) long narrow black box, with a latch at one end, hinge on the other. it is located on the Drivers side. on the side of the dashboard, between the door and the dashboard. at least that is where it is located on my 199 ford explorer XLT
locate the fuse to the interior lights and remove it. On our 98 Explorer you turn the dash light adjustment switch off, next to the headlight switch.
