Hard to tell what you mean here. There is a design which roughly fit the description of bike gear box - the NuVinci, and that one use a CVT(continuously variable transmission). For a CVT it's impossible to say WHICH gear you're in, apart from forward or reverse - as they are continuously variable.
Or maybe you're talking about a regular internally geared hub (IGH), in which case the gear used is the one selected.
Or maybe you're talking about motorbikes, which do have fairly solid gear boxes containing cogwheels with usually diagonal-cut drive wheels, and straight cut reverse gear.
Muddy question.
Option 1: what ever gear the bike is in of course
Option 2: a chain-and-sprocket gear.
A bike is compound machine. This means that it is made up of a bunch of different simple machines. Screws are used to hold the pieces together. The wheel of a bicycle is a wheel and axle. The pedals are also examples of this simple machine. The pedals are attached to a lever that turns a pulley. The gear shifts and brake handles are levers.
it is used to change directions
Gear!
To transfer power from the pedals to where it can be used - the rear wheel.
gear box or speed reducer.
since the car is rear wheel drive the 2nd gear start is used for when you are in snow or somewhere slick you turn that on and it will give you more power to get out. i had one never found it very useful
A series of teeth around the outside of a wheel ... looking just like a gear wheel.
A wheel composed of a series of blades that is used to turn a generator is known as a turbine.
Gears are used to transfer force from one wheel to another. When gears are of the same size then driving gear will move faster as force is being applied on

A crown gear has teeth that engage with other bevel gears. The teeth stick out at right angles to the face of the wheel. A worm gear is a screw that attaches to a wheel by engaging teeth along the wheel. As the screw turns, the wheel also moves and the drive reduces rotational speed and allows for higher torque. Worm gears are used when a project requires large gear reductions.
Yes, The starter is actually used for the reverse gear on this bike.
