During the Civil War, General Sherman ordered Atlanta to be burned down. He made the official order in November of 1864. Sherman was responsible for the March to the Sea that burned much of Georgia.

Jamestown, Virginia, had several endings. The first one came in 1699 when the town burned and most of the town's people including the government moved to Williamsburg. In 1750 the church was abandoned. During the Civil War the Confederates reestablished the town but General McClelland burned the rest of it down. Today it is a tourist attraction.
