Mythology is not typically considered a genre in the same way that fiction, non-fiction, or poetry are. Instead, mythology is a body of myths associated with a particular culture or religion that explain its origins and traditions. However, mythological themes are often found in various genres such as literature, art, and film.

Myths are their own genre. Why? Because while we know them to be false today, there was a time when people genuinely believed these religious tales to be true. These stories were the ancients version of the Bible. The answer to this question will be based on the definitions of each genre you chose. It could be argued that myths are a subset of fantasy as they have additional requirements in their definitions than fantasy does. You may chose not to follow the hierarchy of sets and just say that 'if a genre is big enough it can form its own set and not be dependent on wider set definitions'. Just remember that what DEFINES a true myth is that it was part of a religious ideal, whereas the definition of what is fantasy is always changing. So while we may see myths as fantasy today, we know people believed them to be true at one time. Whereas the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper was always known to be fictional.
