The actual words Neil said were " That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" he was supposed to say " That's one small step a for man, one giant leap for mankind" but who cares, everybody knows what he meant.
His words were: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" But he was meant to say " One small step for a man, one giant leap for man kind."
" That's one small step for (a) Man, One giant leap for mankind" There is considerable debate about whether or not he said "a". Armstrong freely admits that it is inaudible on the recordings, but maintains that is what he said.
