The hypothalamus in the brain releases Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone to the pituitary gland, located in your brain behind the eyes.
The pituitary gland releases Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH), which go to the ovaries. FSH stimulates the selection of an egg from the ovary, and a surge of LH release stimulates the release of the egg for fertilzation.
In the ovary, Theca cells release Testosterone which travels to nearby Granulosa cells which convert the testosterone to estrogen. Theca cells also make progesterone, which is necessary for growing the endometrium, which is what bleeds during the menstrual cycle.
The ovaries store the egg cells. While several egg cells will ripen in ovarian follicles each cycle, normally only one ova per cycle will completely mature - that egg cell will burst from it's follicle and drop into the fallopian tube.
The pituitary gland secretes FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), the hormone that stimulates the ovaries to produce follicles and a mature ova.
LH (luteinizing hormone) is also secreted by the pituitary gland, LH stimulates the production of estrogen in the ovaries.
Estrogen is produced in the ovarian follicles. It is responsible for the thickening of the endometrium and other aspects of regulating the menstrual cycle.
Hormones and eggs are produced by ovary. You have a pair of them. It's not a gland. it's an organ. Ovary produce eggs, usually one egg per month. It produce the hormones, estrogen and progesterone.
The ovaries produce estrogen( the female hormone), but they must be signaled by Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) which is produced by the hypothalamus.
