democracy
When going through government class in High School, they explained that this was a Limited Republic. People don't vote on all decisions (especially federal issues). They vote for people to make the decision on the issues. There are times they vote on local issues themselves, but that is not for the bulk of the issues.
I would hope that what the people want and what is right would be what influenced any member of our government on how to vote on a bill.
A democracy
Republic
The name for the form of government where power is held by the people at large is a Direct democracy.

No,the people vote the laws themselves, thats why it is called direct
Voting/Voters-The major influence on government decision-making is made at the polls on election day by people who vote.
A republic is a representative democracy, where the people elect representatives to make laws for them. A republic makes decisions democratically by the majority vote of representatives. In a representative democracy you elect a few to represent you in the decision making, and make decisions for you, rather then you yourself vote on every decision.(The United States is a republic, or representational democracy, because the people vote for representatives to represent their views in congress. James Madison defined republic in terms of representative democracy as opposed to direct democracy.)A direct democracy, or pure democracy, is where the people rule directly, voting on every law themselves. It's a form of government ruled by majority of every individual. A direct democracy allows all citizens to vote on every decision.Direct democracy is where citizens vote directly by ballot to make decisions for the government. Direct democracy originated in Athens.
Yes why not? American people can make the best decision not the corrupt politicians
People vote for others to speak for them, and make decisions for the good of the colony. Today, we vote for people to makes laws for the good of the community, state, or nation.
The most important barriers to the US being a democracy is the fact that We the People rarely vote for small things, and the fact that we don't vote at all. In a democracy, every decision the government makes will be voted on, and the peoples' votes will be added up and a decision will be made. Here in the US, we have offical morons who vote for us, and their votes are not effected by what We the People vote for. At least it seems like it....
