Depending on the state and school, elementary schools will vary in grades. Some elementary schools run from kindergarten all the way to 8th grade. Others will run from kindergarten to 5th grade, making 6th to 8th grade a middle school.
All elementary schools have 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th grades.
Primary schools (which are usually called elementary schools in the US) usually serve kindergarten, and then 1st grade through either 5th or 6th grade. Some elementary schools also offer preschool (much like nursery in the UK primary schools).

Most elementary schools will have a writing or poetry workshop though most schools have the regular teacher teach it and not another teacher who's only job is writing. Though some schools will have workshop days where they have a visiting children's author teach the workshop.
Yes, we have many nice elementary schools here.
What grades are in middle school depends upon the school district. It is the 2 or 3 grades between elementary school and high school. It includes 7th & 8th grades, but might also have either the 6th or 9th grades. The school district where I grew up had junior high schools with 7th, 8th and 9th grades. They still do, but have changed to calling them "middle school". Where my children grew up, middle school was, and still is, 7th and 8th grades.
Elementary schools often don't need (or can't afford) an "auditorium" or separate performance space. Unlike higher grades, elementary music and theater programs don't require the acoustic and visual aspects of a full-scale auditorium. A gym or cafeteria is often used for meetings, concerts, and theatrical productions. My elementary school had an aud, and we used it enough to justify its existence.
