6th level graphics card
For serious PC gaming, a graphics card is a necessity. That being said, there are plenty of games which can be played with only a decent CPU. A list of older games such as Half Life and StarCraft should run well on a modern machine without a graphics card.
Second Life requires a powerful graphics card
No. However they do help it other out. If for instance you were playing Half Life 2 and you knocked an object over. Instead of the graphics card having to work out the image of the object falling over and the physics of how it would fall, the physics card shares the work (the physics bit) allowing you graphics card to concentrate on graphics. The idea is that the combination of the two will speed your your system/make gameplay smoother
It is only possible to upload the latest drivers for any specific graphics card. Second life is a 3d game that generally requires a high performance graphics card.

I highly doubt it. You probably need more RAM or a better graphics card. Also, check if your graphics card needs any driver updates.
