Stephen Hawking is still contributing. He also appeared in an episode of Big Bang Theory. He has done some of the most astounding work on the how the universes were originally created. He has done the math that has resulted in widespread acceptance among physicists on his theory dealing with the first few ten thousandths of seconds that it took for our universe and most likely many others to be 'born' from the Big Bang. His work has and will continue to consist of the most astounding breakthroughs in theoretical physics since Einstein.
He didn't. Although Hawking has done an immense amount of theoretical work on black holes, as well as the topology of our Universe, he has always taken Big Bang Cosmology as his starting point. That's because, by the time he got his PhD in 1966, observational evidence had pretty much ruled out any cosmology but Big Bang. Hawking has simply improved our mathematical understanding of BBC.
well for one thing he constantly raises money and awareness for ALS patients. He also is the reason a lot of places, especially in England, have wheelchair access. before him they didnt and people in wheelchairs couldn't go see operas or even go to university because there was no wheelchair access.

AIs are developed so that they can form memories and consciousness of their own much like ourselves. We see and learn and that is what is done to AIs. This helps them organize their activities likewise and find better solutions to the problems. But this self-consciousness can lead to an ungrateful uprising. They can turn against their creators. If you have seen I Robot then this the subject which is dealt with in that movie.
A lot of things always seem impossible until they are done. The great thing is, is that once they are done a big relief is felt by all. A great sense of accomplishment can be had.
