It was burned down in 1613. It was torn down in 1644 by its owners. The Puritans had passed a law forbidding all theatrical performance in 1642 so the theatre was closed. Rather than retain a useless building, it was torn down to make room for housing.

The Globe Theatre was made out of wood so it was therefore easy to burn down. During a performance of 'Henry VIII' a cannon misfired, setting the thatched roof on fire.
It did burn down but not in 1642 that was in 1613. The Theatre was closed down by the Puritans as were all theatres a religious group of the time who were a bit extremist are such activities were not accepted, social activities were not allowed.

On June 29, 1613, The Globe Theatre burned down during a performance of Shakespeare's Henry VIII. Sparks or wadding that flew from a cannon used during the production ignited a thatched roof of the gallery, resulting in the fire. The theater was rebuilt with a tile roof and reopened a year later. The second Globe was torn down about 1644.
