The colonies actually paid a great deal less in taxes that did the people in England. This caused problems back home where the people there complained about paying taxes to supply soldiers and administration in the Colonies, not only in America but everywhere Great Britain had Colonies. For these reasons, certain taxes were levied on items such as public papers, tea and other imported items, and colonists were made to house soldiers. This infuriated some Colonists, and as time passed others were stirred up as well against England's administration, even though most Colonists still considered themselves British.
British colonists were upset about England's Navigation Acts because these laws restricted trade to English ships and mandated that certain goods produced in the colonies could only be exported to England. This limited their ability to trade freely with other nations, reducing potential profits and economic opportunities. Many colonists felt that these restrictions benefited England at the expense of their own economic interests, fostering resentment towards British rule. Additionally, the acts fueled a growing desire for independence and self-governance among the colonists.
the colonists left England for religious freedom for Christianity.
ANSWER:James, the Duke of York, allowed a social contract with the colonies, and him. It was based on:"In this condition everyone enjoyed certain basic rights, particularly the rights to life, liberty, and ownership of property."So, James, and the colonies worked out a social agreement, for his power to rule, and the people to be allowed to keep the basic rights they had earlier possessed.
The Navigation Acts, implemented in the 17th century, mandated that colonial trade be conducted exclusively on English ships and that certain goods could only be exported to England or its colonies. This led to increased resentment among colonists, who felt restricted in their trade options and economic growth. The Acts fostered a sense of colonial identity and unity against perceived English oppression, ultimately contributing to tensions that fueled the American Revolution. Overall, while the Acts aimed to bolster England's economic control, they inadvertently strained relationships with the colonies.
They actually didn't become more tolerant of different religions. The original colonies are known for there religious persecution. When the colonies were first being founded if you were a different religon you would be kicked out of the colony and forced to find another. This cause certain colonies to be certain beliefs and only that belief.
Non-importation is a law against importing certain goods from another country, similar to a trade embargo. An example of it used in a sentence would be: The colonists enacted a non-importation law against England in the hopes that England would suffer economically and be more inclined to negotiate with the colonists.
The Navigation Acts were a series of English laws that heavily regulated trade in the colonies, particularly affecting taxed goods shipped from the southern colonies to countries other than England. These acts mandated that certain goods, such as tobacco and sugar, be exported only to England or other English colonies, thereby restricting colonial trade and ensuring that profits flowed back to England. The enforcement of these laws contributed to growing tensions between the colonies and the British government, ultimately leading to colonial discontent.
I'd say that independent small farmers outnumbered the large plantation owners in both colonies. Hope I could help, even if this is a bit late...
