The Byrds made music in the early and middle of the nineteen sixties and the genre of music they played was soft blues and rock n roll music that was generally attributed to Elvis during this time.
The songwriter who wrote number one hits for both The Byrds and Manfred Mann is Jim McGuinn, also known as Roger McGuinn, who was the lead guitarist and vocalist for The Byrds. However, the specific hit for The Byrds, "Mr. Tambourine Man," was written by Bob Dylan. For Manfred Mann, the hit "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" was written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. So while McGuinn was influential, it’s important to note that the actual hit songs for both bands had different specific songwriters.
