Initially I wouldn't figure the SEALs would use a pistol, but it is possible given they may have switched to handguns since they may have been storming the inside of the building, where swinging rifles around in tight quarters may not be the best option, or a SEAL may not of had time to reload, and gone for his secondary. It's hard to say because the President isn't releasing anything. If it wasn't the SIG P226 like most sources say then it was probably an AR-15 variant, such as an M4.
