Because Hitler believed that Germans and Austrians were of the "Same Blood", before WW1 Germany and (Back then) Austria-Hungary were very close allies and had formed a Union between the two countries, after WW1 Austria an Hungary were split into 2 countries and was banned from having a union with Germany, So Later when Hitler came into power in Nazi Germany he reunited Germany and Austria believing that should be "One".
