There are several different ways a converter can fail.

The most common symptoms and causes are:

  • Loss of power multiplication at low speed if the "one way" fails
  • over heating of the transmission if the one way fails
  • A massive loss of oil if the neck cracks
  • Overheating if the converter clutch fails
  • Loss of fuel economy if the Lock up clutch fails
  • Shudder or vibration if the lock up clutch fails or is failing
