I am not sure what happened first, but the midwestern oil barons (Flagler, Rockefeller, etc.) came and built expensive houses and resorts on previous swamps, as well as bringing the railroad into the area. Later, Disney bought up orange orchards and built the first part of Disney World. In Tampa, there was a good-sized Cuban cigar industry.

If the world increased, Florida would spread apart thus causing fragments of Florida to possibly drift into the ocean which would make Florida hot and cold in its different islands.
