The people of ancient Rome were able to change their government by civil protest or civil unrest. They overthrew the kings, established the republic (which even worked for a while) and finally, when the republic faded out, consented to the principate.
because we re able to capture moments that has never happend before !!
Rome won. Egypt lost. Egypt was annexed into the Roman empire and became a province. The conquering of Egypt ended the last civil war of the republic and literally ended the republic itself, as Octavian, having sole power, was able to change the government from a republic to the princpate.
He meant 'keep' as in 'maintain': 'a republic, if you can maintain it'. Historically, republics don't have the best track record (I'm looking at you, Rome, Athens, and Florence). Benjamin Franklin meant that the republic that he had helped to created in the US was a gift, if the citizens of the US were able to make it work, and not let what happened to Rome happen to the US.
Both classes participated in the governing of Rome once the plebeians gained their civil rights. The plebeians had their assemblies recognized, and were able to run for public office in addition to electing their tribunes. By the mid to late republic, one consul had to be a patrician and the other had to be a plebeian. Both classes participated in the governing of Rome once the plebeians gained their civil rights. The Roman republic was a unique kind of government in the ancient world. It had written laws and magistrates to conduct trials. Citizens were able to vote on important public offices. The republic was used to fairly share power among the populace of Rome. The republic had flaws however it was a giant step in the way ancient governments operated. Caesar's death was good in the eyes of his assassins and bad for Rome. His assassins killed him because they thought he wanted to become a king. The Roman Republic had been created nearly 500 years earlier when the last king of Rome was deposed because he was a tyrant and the monarchy was abolished. The purpose of the Republic was to prevent the return of tyranny. The assassin equated a king with tyranny. Therefore, they thought that by killing Caesar they saved the \Republic and liberty. The reality was different. Caesar was the hero of the people who saw him as a man who had the courage and means to challenge the Romans aristocracy, which they saw as out of touch and corrupt. People were very upset about his death and came close to rioting. The aftermath of his death was more civil wars between Caesar's supporters and his opponents and then a civil war between Caesar's supporters.
Plebeians are poorer citizens of the ancient republic of rome while Patricians are richer citizens of the ancient republic of rome. Plebeians also didn't have some rights such as not being able to hold office. When the Plebeians were finally fed up they pulled away but after some time the Patricians needed them so laws changed.
