In the "Bad Beginning" Violet, Sunny, and Klaus have a terrible misfortune. They are on the beach and Mr. Poe, a banker and one of the Baudelaire's friends, comes and tells them that their parents had just died in a fire. According to their parents wishes they move into their relative's house which happens to be Count Olaf. Count Olaf is a greedy, nasty man who is rather selfish. Count Olaf puts the children through horrible tasks. But to get to the point Count Olaf is after the Baudelaire's fortune and will do anything to get it.
Violet gets out of Olaf's marriage plan by signing her name with her left hand....Count Olaf escapes getting arrested.
