crossing over.
During prophase in meiosis, homologous chromosomes pair up and undergo crossing over, exchanging genetic material. This process does not occur during mitosis, where individual chromosomes line up and separate without crossing over.
Cytokinesis is the last stage of mitosis (cell division) where the cell splits into two parts. The chromosomes condense into chromatin and a new nuclear membrane is formed on each new cell.
When two gametes join during fertilization, they form a zygote with a complete set of chromosomes. This zygote will develop into a new organism through cell division and differentiation. The genetic material from both gametes combines to determine the traits of the offspring.
In telophase, the spindle fibers start to disassemble as the chromosomes reach the opposite ends of the cell. This disassembly process helps in the formation of two separate nuclei and marks the final stage of cell division.
