How did the end of civil war effect the wild west?

The end of the US Civil War had a huge impact on the West and westward expansion of settlers in all areas west of the Mississippi. With that said, it should be clear the problems between Native Americans and white western settlers was a distraction to the US army during the war. On more than one occasion the US had to step in and put down Native uprisings due to the settlers tendencies to break treaties. In fact the largest uprisings happened during the Civil War. Most of the time the white settlers were in the wrong, but US President Lincoln had to protect his fellow Americans. With the war now over, there were more Federal troops available to help keep the peace between the Native tribes and white settlers. This enhanced the push westward by the settlers and Natives were forced onto Reservations.

How did Columbus's voyages affect the Caribbean Indians?

In the first few decades of after Columbus's voyages, the primary effect was that large numbers of Native Americans were enslaved and forced to work on European projects. Columbus himself was infamous for the brutal way that he treated the Taíno people, the natives of Hispaniola island, forcing them into slave labor in the recently excavated mines. The work was so callous and so brutal that significant percentages of the Hispaniola Taíno population died from overwork and fellow Spaniards reported him to Queen Isabella, who was in turn so enraged at the conduct that she demanded he return to Spain. (Remember that this is the same "humanitarian" Queen Isabella who is responsible for the Spanish Inquisition.) The Native Americans died in record numbers (especially in the Caribbean) within decades of the Spanish arrival, primarily from foreign diseases, but also from this overwork.
