What happened at the end of The Stranger?

There are three films with that title.

The original is the "The Thing from Another World" (1951). It's commonly shortened to The Thing. The monster dies in the end.

"The Thing" (1982). This is the John Carpenter directed remake starring Kurt Russell. The monster probably dies in the end but there is some doubt.

"The Thing" (2011). This film is actually a prequel to the Kurt Russell film. They just used the same title. If you've seen 1982 film, it begins with the ending of the 2011 story.
